Back and neck massager buying guide
By Ostrall · Updated October 20, 2026
"Back and neck massager" covers several quite different devices. Ostrall works out which kind you mean, then shows the ones that fit, priced in pounds from shops that sell to the UK.
What Ostrall asks to narrow it down
- Which kind: wrap, pillow, seat pad, massage gun, or TENS?
- Heat, or no heat?
- Corded, or cordless?
The main types
- Shiatsu neck and shoulder wraps sit around the neck with arm loops for pressure. Rotating nodes knead; many add heat.
- Shiatsu pillows are smaller and sit behind the neck or lower back, against a chair or bed.
- Seat pads and chair cushions cover the whole back, usually with rolling or vibrating motors.
- Massage guns (percussion) are strong and targeted, with a hard head.
- TENS and EMS units use small electrical pulses through stick-on pads, a different kind of device from a mechanical massager.
Heat and timers
Many models add heat, and most have an automatic shut-off timer, often around 15 minutes.
Plugs, power and portability
The UK uses 230 V and the three-pin Type G plug. Models sold for the UK come with a UK plug and carry UKCA or CE marking; a listing shipped from abroad can come with a European or US plug. Ostrall shows only listings priced in pounds from shops that sell to the UK. Cordless models list a run time per charge, and some wraps and cushions include a 12 V car adapter.
Pressure and fit
Wraps with arm loops let you set the intensity, and many have a reverse-direction button and several speeds. Massage guns differ mostly in the number of heads and the speed range. Removable, washable covers are common on everyday models.
When prices move
Massagers are popular gifts, so prices in the UK often move before Mother's Day in spring, Father's Day in June, Black Friday and Christmas.
Let Ostrall find it
Search in your own words. Ostrall asks only the question your search leaves open, then shows the massagers that fit, with today's prices in pounds (VAT included), from stores such as Boots, Argos, Currys and John Lewis, and a link straight to each store's product page.
Results come closest match first, then what is in stock, then the cheapest delivered price. No store pays to rank.
